What is GunkangFirst?

The name comes from the Korean word geongang (건강), meaning "health": GunkangFirst simply means "health first." It is a free tool for people in their 50s, 60s, and beyond. When your knee, shoulder, lower back, neck, or wrist starts to hurt, you can run a quick self-check, then look up related supplements together with the amounts recommended for older adults and the precautions that come with them. Our goal is to put joint and muscle pain and supplement information in one simple place.

What is different about the Global edition?

GunkangFirst started as a Korean-language site. The Global edition covers the same topics, but rather than translating word for word, we rewrote each page so it makes sense to readers outside Korea. Where Korean and international guidelines differ, we show both. Some pages deal with Korea-specific topics, such as products sold at Daiso Korea or the Korean rules on health functional foods; we kept them because they are useful to anyone living in, moving to, or shopping from Korea. Sources and figures are cited exactly as they appear in the original, including the Korean-language ones, so you can check them yourself.

How is the information put together?

We research and summarize trusted sources in Korea and abroad, including Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS), the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA), the Korean Nutrition Society, the Dietary Reference Intakes for Koreans published by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements, Mayo Clinic, Cochrane, and MedlinePlus. AI tools helped with research and drafting, and the site operator checked every source before publishing. Where the evidence is mixed or uncertain (for example, the effect of some joint supplements), we say so plainly instead of overstating it. Each article lists its sources at the bottom, so you can read the originals too.

Our policy on ads and sponsorship

GunkangFirst may cover its running costs with Google ads, but we do not write articles in exchange for sponsorship or payment from any company or product. Every article, including the Daiso product comparisons, was written with no affiliation with Daiso (Asung Daiso) or any manufacturer, and the site does not sell any products. If we ever publish sponsored content, we will say so clearly at the top of the article.
